Fall Detection on Apple Watches

Did you know Series 4 & 5 Apple Watches have a feature you can enable that detect a hard fall and alert the appropriate authorities? Even better, if you’re over the age of 65, this feature is on as a default setting on your watch.

When it detects a fall, your watch automatically calls 911 and connects you with emergency respondents. It provides them with an exact location of where you were when the fall happened through latitude and longitude coordinates. From there, your watch can alert your emergency contacts about the details of the fall, even giving them your location, too.

Here’s how to enable fall detection on your Apple Watch:

  1. On your iPhone, click on the Watch app
  2. Click “My Watch” in the bottom left-hand corner
  3. Click “Emergency SOS”
  4. Scroll down and turn on “Fall Detection” – when it’s on, the toggle is green.

That’s it! You enabled fall detection on your Apple Watch. It can be a great resource to alert your loved ones if you’ve fallen and keep them updated along the way.
